- Explanation of [tag-tec]blog and ping[/tag-tec]
- Ping list – 67 Entries (Go directly to list)
- Valuable [tag-tec]blog & ping[/tag-tec] plug-ins
- Sources of ping list
(1)This explanation of [tag-ice]blog and ping[/tag-ice] is strictly in non-technical terms.
There are ping services that scan blogs regularly for updates and publish the recently updated blogs.
When you “blog” (publish a post), you want to notify the blogging community and the search engines of your post. Blogging is unique in that this notification can be done on a wide scale instantaneously.
The “ping” from “blog and ping” is the message that you send out to all the ping services, [tag-tec]blog directories[/tag-tec], and search engines that you have posted fresh content.
There are many who will subscribe to the [tag-tec]RSS feed[/tag-tec] of the ping services, so that when they post your blog update, it can be read by a very widespread audience across the Internet.
(2)Below is one of the most comprehensive ping lists you can find anywhere on the Internet.
If you have a WordPress blog, the ping notification is automated whenever you publish new content.
Be sure to see #3 below which explains a WordPress liability.
Go to the Control Panel =>Options =>Writing.
Scroll down to “Update Services” and there is a box where you can enter your [tag-tec]ping list[/tag-tec].
Make sure there is a line break after every entry. (The [tag-tec]list of ping services[/tag-tec] below satifies that line break requirement).

(3)When you publish fresh content, WordPress automatically will ping everyone on your [tag-ice]ping list[/tag-ice]. That part is great.
But, WordPress will also do the same whenever you edit already published content.
This can cause you to spam the ping services with excess pings if your edit involves numerous steps.
To eliminate this problem you can use one of two plug-ins that modify WordPress so that it does not ping when you edit published posts.
I have listed two excellent choices for this task, and it is up to you which one you prefer:
Ultimate Plugins Smart Update Pinger
(4)This comprehensive ping list was compiled from three different sources:
- The ping list in Jack Humphrey’s Authority Black Book (2008 version):
- The ping list from the blog, DailyBlogTips:
- The Jeff Johnson ping list posted on the blog Manuel Viloriea.com:

My thanks to these three sources.
