Here is a technique which I feel can be adapted to online promotion.
In actual practice, Bob Guccione, publisher of Penthouse magazine, settled on a direct mail promotion strategy in England in the very early
days of his skin mag.
He bought several mailing lists which consisted of priests, convents, Members of Parliament and any other groups likely to be outraged by pornography.
The mailing included color photos of scantily clad women, and created a sensation due to the reaction of the recipients.
Now, I’m not advocating the use of pornography to get your point across, but the concept of controversy
is the key.
Social networking sites (all Web 2.0 sites) lend themselves to the rapid, viral spread of hot topics.
So, your job, in terms of blog traffic and blog promotion, is to create that new, provocative twist to subjects of interest.
